Design and build

From the start, it appears the Boat isn’t worried that his most memorable ring may have a few flaws, given that the gadget is named “Bot Ring Gen 1” on the retail box. The ring is available in three different sizes – 7,9 and 11, individual measurements are 17.4 mm, 19.15 mm and 20.85 mm.  there is only one shade available, which is Charcoal Dark. The outer part of the ring is shiny, smoky, shiny silver is visible around the edge, the boat mark and sensors are located inside. As an afterthought a small red line denotes a touch-sensitive area that can be used to control and run specific functions on the matched cell phone – this will be supported later.

Boat Smart Ring Gen 1 Features

Key elements of the boat ring include realistic limits and exercises such as progression, rest, pulse, blood oxygen, internal heat levels and feminine cycles. All things considered, you can follow running, jogging, and trekking (the last option in the app is named Ride). Keep in mind that this is a modest gadget compared to a wellness band or smartwatch, so you can expect features like auto exercise detection or built-in GPS.

  • Body temperature sensor: The boAt ring could have the ability to measure body temperature, which even pricier smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 don’t possess. The latter comes with a skin temperature sensor only.
  • Essential health trackers: Commonly sought-after health sensors like heart rate (possibly 24/7), blood oxygen levels, and sleep should be available on the wearable. These features are commonly found on smartwatches.
  • Smart activity tracking and body recovery tracking: Besides tracking steps, calories, and sports activities, boAt also lets you know the recovery status of your body so that you know when and how much rest you need.
  • SOS for emergency situations and motion sensing for measuring the body’s position and movements. The latter probably aids in the SOS feature and fitness tracking. The boAt ring could probably be used and controlled using single-hand movements.
  • Build and wearability: Since the boAt smart ring comes with ceramic and metal build, along with 5ATM water resistance, we can expect a decently durable product. The water resistance should let you enjoy low-velocity and shallow-water activities up to 50 meters in depth.
  • Battery life: The boAt Ring could last 7 days on battery and support smart charging using a proprietary adapter. It appears to be available in 3 sizes viz. 17.40mm, 19.15mm, and 20.85mm.

App connectivity, performance and battery

Boat Ring’s companion app is in the form of the aptly named Boat Ring App, which is available on both iOS and Android. Matching is very easy and when the gadget matches your cell phone, you can use the application to view actual information and patterns, start or end exercises, flip Brilliant Control highlights, update firmware, and more. The design of the app is quite simple, and is divided into four primary tabs – Status, Comfort, Wellness, and Controls. The Status tab shows pulse, SpO2, and temperature information, the Rest tab shows sleep-related data, while the Wellness tab shows steps and exercise.

In addition to patterns and authentic information, each of these tabs also presents experiences – the Status tab shows recovery status, the Rest tab shows an assessment based on one of your dozen designs, while the Health tab shows tests based on actual work.  Additionally, there are useful visuals that tell you if you’ve got enough rest, regardless of whether your exercise level is good or not. Each of these are useful pieces of knowledge, provided you follow those ideas and try to establish an ideal harmony between normal activity, exercise and rest, especially when those ideas are backed by accurate numbers. ,

Health Accuracy

The basic inspiration behind boAt Brilliant Ring Gen 1 is to provide proper assessment of health as it has no presentation. There is also no associated GPS, so following the courses for the sports mentioned earlier is impossible. Pulse following is not continuous, and there is no indication of remaining battery duration until you close the application. The ring cannot prepare or tell you in any way. Since the ring is close to human skin and also has 6 6-hub motion sensors, it means the step count should be great and accurate but the truth of the matter is different.

Software and Features

To fully utilize the boAt Smart Ring Gen 1, it is necessary to install the boAt Ring App on your smartphone. The App, although somewhat outdated in appearance, effectively fulfills its purpose. However, there is definitely room for improvement in terms of software functionality. The App’s user interface seems outdated and incomplete, giving the impression that boAt prioritized releasing the ring over refining the App. While I understand boAt’s desire to compete in the Ring market, I believe it would be wiser to prioritize quality over market capture.

This is the key feature

  • boAt has added gestures which looks great but when it comes to real-life usage, it doesn’t work the best.
  • For example, you can swipe up and down on the ring, and the Shorts or even reals will scroll by itself or you can even take pictures or change the song with the help of the ring.
  • None of these features works all the time, you have to swipe two or three times and it will work for one time.
  •  As I have said, the software is not polished well, it needs lots of improvement.
  • While the biggest problem with gestures is, you can’t use everything at once. You have to either choose the Short/Reels swipe, Take pictures, or change songs.
  • Again, the software is a limiting factor and yet boAt is like, this is Rs 8999, take it or leave it.

Luna Ring: Noise

Verdict

The Boat Ring is not the only smart ring available in India. UltraHuman is also in the competition, and there may be other brands as well. Samsung is reportedly working on their own version too. Despite this, Boat’s entry into this market, along with the upcoming rival offering from Noise (which has been announced but is not yet available), is likely to have a significant impact on the wearables industry and generate interest among users. Priced at Rs 8,999, the Boat Ring is not cheap, but it is still more affordable than UltraHuman’s device, making it accessible to a wider audience. Whether it will succeed in popularizing smart rings remains to be seen. However, for now, the Boat Ring does have some minor flaws that could potentially be resolved through software updates. Overall, it is worth considering as a viable option.
