Class 10 Maths Syllabus 2023-24 Unit-wise

The table below consists of math’s class 10 syllabus 2023-24.

Unit Unit Name Topic Detail
1 Number system Real Number Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic – assertions made after analysing previous work and showing and inspiring through examples, Proofs of irrationality of 2, 3, 5
2 Algebra Polynomials A polynomial’s zeros. The relationship between quadratic polynomial zeros and coefficients.
Pair of linear equations in two variables A pair of linear equations with two variables and a graphical method for solving them, as well as consistency/inconsistency.

Number of solutions algebraic conditions. Algebraic solution of a pair of linear equations in two variables – through substitution and elimination. Simple situational issues.

Quadratics equations A quadratic equation in standard form is ax2 + bx + c = 0 (a 0). Factorization and the quadratic formula are used to solve quadratic equations (only real roots).

The relationship between the discriminant and the nature of the roots. To be included are quadratic equation-based situational situations relating to daily activities.

Arithmetic progressions Motivation for studying Arithmetic Progression The nth term and the sum of the first n terms of A.P. are deduced and used to solve everyday problems.
3 Coordinate Geometry Coordinate Geometry Coordinate geometry concepts, as well as graphs of linear equations. The formula for calculating distance. Internal division formula (section formula).
4 Geometry

Triangle Definitions, examples, and contrasts of similar triangles.
Circle point of contact tangent to a circle
5 Trigonometry

Introduction to trigonometry Trigonometric ratios of a right-angled triangle’s acute angle. Proof of their existence (clearly defined); motivation for the ratios defined at 0o and 90o. Trigonometric ratio values of 300, 450, and 600. The ratios’ interrelationships.
Trigonometry identities Application and proof of the identity sin2A + cos2A = 1. Only simple identities will be provided.
Heights and distances Simple height and distance problems. There should be no more than two right triangles in a problem. Elevation/depression angles should be no more than 30°, 45°, and 60°.
6 Mensuration

Areas related to circles The area of a circle’s sectors and segments. Area and perimeter/circumference problems based on the above-mentioned plane figures. (When calculating the area of a circle segment, problems should be limited to central angles of 60°, 90°, and 120° only.
Surface areas and volumes Surface areas and volumes of any two of the following combinations: cubes, cuboids, spheres, hemispheres, and right circular cylinders/cones.
7 Statistics and probability

Statistics grouped data (avoid bimodal situations).
Probability Probability is defined classically. Simple problems involving determining the likelihood of an event.
