Mahua Moitra filed a police report on January 10, 2017, alleging that Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Union Minister Babul Supiryo had insulted her modesty during a national debate on television. Later, the complaint was dismissed by the Calcutta High Court. Following that, Tapas Paul and Saugata Roy received legal letters from Babul Pupriyo for allegedly defaming him after accusing him of taking part in the Rose Valley company scam. According to reports, Moitra smacked a female police officer on August 3 at the Assam airport, leading to her arrest there. She was denied boarding her trip to Kolkata that evening, but she left the next day with a complaint against her already filed. Zee Media filed a defamation case against Morita in January 2020 because of her allegedly making negative remarks about them to reporters. Later, she received bail and the Delhi Court conducted her trial.
Mahua Moitra labeled goddess Kali as a meat-eating and alcohol-accepting deity on July 5, 2022, at the India Today Conclave East because the deity was wearing a cigarette. Asserting taking a stand against the controversy, the TMC party said that Moitra made the allegations on a personal basis. On August 20, 2022, she also faced backlash from online users after a viral video showed her stowing away an expensive Louis Vuitton luggage. This came about after TMC member Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar brought up the topic of price increases in the Lok Sabha. But she responded to the video with a string of pictures posted to Twitter.
